The programmes and services provided by Ain Society through the Serenity Cancer Care Programme aim to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and their families through emotional, social and spiritual well-being. The programme encompasses emotional support provided through support groups and counselling, social support through financial assistance schemes and spiritual support through enrichment programmes.

Based on the statistics collected by the Ministry of Health in 2012, 30 percent of death is by cancer while the next leading cause is Ischaemic heart disease which is at 16.4 percent (Ministry of Health, 2013). Due to this worrying upward trend, we felt the need to provide our service and support for the community who are affected by cancer.

At the current moment, there are 333 clients who have either approached or been referred to us to address their respective issues. The number of clients is expected to increase through collaboration with the respective restructured hospitals and external agencies. As more clients walk through our door, it is expected for the centre to provide and support clients in addressing their needs through programmes and services. As define by Oxford English Dictionary, Serenity brought the meaning of “clear, tranquillity and peacefulness”. As such our strategies and programmes are evolved with these three words in mind
